COVID-19 Response

September 28, 2021

At Hillside Village Keene the health and well-being of residents and team members is our highest priority at all times. We continue to take proper prevention and preparedness steps related to COVID-19.

What is Hillside Village Keene doing to prepare for any incidence of COVID-19?

We know that this disease most dramatically impacts older adults - the people we serve.  We will continue to follow infection control guidance from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) as well as our local and state health agencies.

Earlier this year, we successfully completed a safe and efficient distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine to residents and employees in partnership with local and state health agencies. As new information develops, we will continue coordinating with our pharmacy partners and local and state health authorities to provide additional information or updates directly to residents and employees. Hillside Village Keene will work with residents and employees who qualify and want to receive a COVID-19 booster shot as recommended by the CDC.

Recently, Hillside Village Keene announced a requirement for all employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by November 14, 2021. Protecting the health and safety of our residents and employees remains our top priority, and we are requiring employee COVID-19 vaccinations to ensure we stay true to that focus. As new highly transmissible COVID-19 variants persist, we believe the COVID-19 vaccination is essential to protecting our residents and employees.

We continue to be steadfast in taking every precaution to protect the community from the spread of COVID-19. Employees continue to wear masks and undergo screenings at the start of each shift.

COVID-19 Actions:

  • We have established a Medical Advisory Board, which consists of a team of interdisciplinary experts, including physicians and scientists who specialize in epidemiology, mental health, infectious disease and indoor air quality.
  • We are connecting with our local and state health agencies on a regular basis.
  • Those who do enter, including all team members, are screened to inquire whether they have any symptoms or potential known exposures. They are not allowed to enter if they answer yes to any of these questions.
  • We continue our focus on infection control and prevention, following the guidelines from the CDC.
  • We continue to actively monitor and report respiratory illnesses across our organization.
  • We are regularly sharing updated information on COVID-19 with our residents and others in the communities that we serve.
  • We have an emergency operations plan in place should we need to implement it.

Through it all, we have focused on providing the experiences Life Care Services® communities are known for. We remain dedicated to serving our seniors, first and foremost, and we’ve adapted to the challenges in today’s world to ensure that never changes.

We recognize the big moments. Big moments deserve to be recognized, no matter what’s going on outside our doors. That’s why we’re taking time to celebrate the big moments in residents’ lives, like birthdays and anniversaries. If family and friends are unable to travel to celebrate with us, we have the technology to support virtual celebrations where needed. We love to enjoy life at Hillside Village Keene, and we can always find something to celebrate.

We honor daily routines. We know residents have missed the little moments in the day that brought people together and are enjoying the opportunity to safely come back together again.

We appreciate each other’s company. Now, more than ever, we know what it’s like to have to spend time away from loved ones, and we appreciate the opportunity to bring families and friends together. The smiles, the laughter ringing through our community – it can’t be beat. It’s hard to be apart from friends and family, and as we once again have the opportunity to gather, we are thankful. But technology has given us dozens of ways to turn life’s moments into wonderful virtual experiences. We recognize the activities residents typically look forward to and have the power to mold these opportunities into virtual or socially-distanced events, providing the opportunity for meaningful connections daily, if ever necessary.

We encourage physical and mental wellness. Staying active – both physically and mentally – is essential to emotional well-being. We’ve adapted our offerings to include both in-person and online exercise classes, we’ve set up reading or pen-pal programs with local school children, and we are dedicated to helping our residents stay active and connected, no matter what’s going on outside our doors.

Rest assured, at Hillside Village Keene, experience is everything. We remain inspired by the many ways our community team ensures residents feel connected and cared for as we all learn to adjust to this “new normal.”

Community Services & Visitation Update

March 19, 2021

As we serve vulnerable adults throughout our community, Hillside Village’s reopening phases have differed at times from the state’s or county’s phased approach.  We will base decisions for each phase on state and regional criteria, advice from public health officials, and the health status of our community.  We will evaluate how we shift our protocols after we know our community is no longer at risk, and with careful consideration of the guidance offered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and local and state health departments.

From the beginning, we have taken on this challenge as a marathon rather than a sprint.  There are no short cuts or easy answers to how we reduce our risk to COVID-19 and it’s as important as ever that we continue to remain focused on protecting ourselves and supporting each other.   We want to keep you informed regarding when services will re-open and our policies on visitors to the community.

As of March 19th, Hillside Village service updates and visitor policies are as follows:

  • On-campus visitation for Independent Living can now take place indoors in the lobby lounge by reservation only and outdoors at any time. On March 23rd, we will begin our Verified Vaccinated Visitor (3V) Program and fully vaccinated visitors will be able to visit Independent Living residents in their apartments only.  Registration and reservations will be required.  Family visitation has also resumed at the Prospect-Woodward Health Center.  Please call for details.
  • The indoor pool, fitness center, wellness studio, greenhouse, meeting rooms, library, art studio, performing arts center, Woodside great room, and woodshop are available for resident use with various precautions in place.
  • Full housekeeping in independent living apartments is resuming.
  • Transportation is available on weekdays.
  • Various organized group activities have returned with social distancing and masking required.
  • The Community Center and Health Center Salons are now operational.
  • Our residents in all levels of care have been fully vaccinated and so we are eager and excited to announce more re-opening news very soon.

Until further notice, Hillside Village will continue to follow the heightened precautionary measures currently in place.  These practices include following social distancing protocols, wearing masks, and some visitation restrictions.  We understand the risks posed to our community from COVID-19 and remain committed to our processes.  As the situation evolves, and we make changes to our protocols, residents, team members, and families will be notified first.   We will work to keep you informed via our website.

Thank you for your patience, your support, and for embodying the hopeful spirit that Hillside Village is known for as we continue to navigate this process together.  If you have specific questions on how Hillside Village will re-open, please contact Jolynn Whitten, Executive Director, at (603) 283-5150.   For more information about COVID-19 and our national response to COVID-19, please go to https://www.lcsnet.com/covid-19-update/.

Hillside Village Thanks the Community for The Pet Food Drive!

February 24, 2021

Hillside Village Keene and The Prospect-Woodward Health Center held a food drive for the Monadnock Humane Society on Tuesday, February 23rd from 10am to 7pm. We helped our furry friends during this time of uncertainty by ensuring the Humane Society has the food they need to provide as much nutrition as possible to as many animals as they can. We collected high-quality food items including canned and dry food as well as treats. And do not forget our feline friends! Donations for both dogs and cats were accepted.

The Monadnock Humane Society provides food to not only the pets in their shelter, but they also provide food to all their foster homes and have a food pantry for those who are unable to provide food to their own pets. The average cost of caring for a shelter pet is $35/day.

Thank you to our community, residents & staff who participated in this event!

Priority Access to Newly F.D.A. Approved COVID-19 Vaccine

December 16, 2020

Hillside Village Keene is pleased to be able to offer the COVID-19 vaccination to residents and employees through our partner pharmacy. Residents and employees will be in the initial distribution group in the CDC phased allocations and among the first in the country to have access to the vaccine once it is available.  Specific vaccination distribution and delivery plans, including the prioritization of residents by level of care, will be determined by each state. Click here for the most recent state plan for the rollout of vaccine access.

Hillside Village Keene and other communities managed by Life Care Services are partnering with CVS or Walgreens to provide the vaccine to residents and staff, free of charge. Vaccinations will be carefully administered by a licensed professional at Hillside Village Keene offering the peace of mind that comes with not having to venture out in public to receive the immunization.

Hillside Village Keene is dedicated to mitigating the spread of COVID-19. We continue to put residents first by utilizing enhanced infection and disease control protocols, while still providing exceptional experiences for residents.

If you have further questions about the COVID-19 vaccine, visit the CDC website here. Please contact us at 603-283-5150 or email us at WhittenJolynn@lcsnet.com for specific information about the vaccination plan at Hillside Village Keene.

Guidance for Seasonal Celebrations

Guidance for Seasonal Celebrations

November 13, 2020

As we begin to plan for fall and winter celebrations, senior living communities managed by LCS have established precautionary measures to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 and help keep residents and employees safe.  We realize the upcoming weeks are traditionally a time of family gatherings and special events, yet the health and safety of our employees and residents remains our top priority.

Our communities continue to follow the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health authorities.  We also encourage our employees, residents, and their families to follow the additional protocols provided for fall and winter celebrations:

  • When possible, host events outdoors instead of indoors.
  • Limit the number of invited guests.
  • Follow social distancing guidelines.
  • Encourage guests to bring their own face mask, hand sanitizer, and other supplies.

Of special importance, if you are planning in-person holiday gatherings with people outside of your household, consider asking all guests to strictly avoid contact with people outside of their households for 14 days before the gathering.  This will help reduce the risk of exposure.

We realize these are challenging times and appreciate your consideration of these protocols to help keep our residents and their families safe and healthy.  For additional information about suggested practices and protocols during this season, please go to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.
